Frustration free way to help your dog learn to walk nicely

Anyone Can Walk Your Dog to Tire Them Out, But Fortunate Fido Provides a Dog Walking Service Designed to Improve Your Dog's Walking

Our Personalized Dog Training Walks are designed to help your dog get consistent work on walking nicely so that you don't get pulled down the street! Loose leash walking is a hard behavior that can easily be taken for granted, until you have a dog that you just can't seem to get to stop pulling!

The number one reason we see dogs having a tough time walking nicely is because they don't understand what we want and they don't have the foundations to do it! That's where our Walk & Trains come in. During these Day Training appointments, a trainer comes to your house to pick up your dog and take them on either a 30 minute Walk & Train or a 60 minute Walk & Train. These appointments are an easy, effective way to help your dog learn what we want them to do on walks. We have the patience and practice to teach them what we want to see and help them out when they start pulling, so that they don't continually practice it!

We don't use or rely on aversive tools to help them. Instead, we build up a foundation of attention and patterns to make it extremely rewarding to stick with the person holding the leash and we send you videos and photos showing you the process so you can practice it as well!

The benefit of this program is the repetition. Your dog gets consistent, scheduled practice on their walks with our trainer rather than just being tired out during a walk where they spend the majority of their time pulling and lunging at the end of the leash. In addition, you get the knowledge of how to teach them to walk on a leash nicely.

Who can benefit from personalized Dog Training Walks?

  • Does your dog pull on leash?
  • Does your dog drag you down the street during your walks?
  • Does your dog spend their whole walk pulling to get to new smells?
  • Do you have a puppy who has never been on a leash before?
  • Are you looking for someone to tire your dog out while you’re at work?
  • Does your dog lunge or bark to see other dogs or people?*
  • Does your dog lunge or bark to make other dogs or people go away?*

Then our personalized Dog Training Walks might be a good option for you!

These appointments are appropriate for most dogs, but they do go at the dog’s pace. If your dog is reactive or fearful, we do NOT force them into situations they can’t handle, as that will only hurt them in the long term. That might mean that we walk the same, short path multiple times during your dog’s walk or that we only walk your dog at times when it’s less busy to start with, but, what you’ll see, is that as we continue, your dog’s confidence and handler focus will grow.

*While we do specialize in helping reactive dogs and we do walk reactive dogs, we do require a Behavioral Modification Consultation before any Walk & Train appointments. This is because in order to fully help your dog with their reactivity, management and work outside of your dog’s walks is essential. For your reactive dog to improve, you need to understand how and why we train your reactive dog the way we do (positively and slowly!) and we need to be sure that you’re ready to follow our guidelines.

What do you work on during a Walk & Train?

Teaching your dog to walk near you and not pull on leash can be a complex process. It involves impulse control, attention, confidence, body awareness, and more! That’s why we spend our time during your dog’s Walk & Trains building these behaviors up.

We use dog training pattern games to build value in sticking with you and to help your dog understand where we want them (we’re not looking for a heel during this, our walks are for our dogs to enjoy, we just don’t want to be yanked down the street!).

In addition, we work on polite greeting patterns to teach our dog how to access exciting new smells and objects they want to check out, WITHOUT them having to pull on the leash to get there. These also help build confidence in more timid dogs and help them learn that interacting with new things can be fun, but if they get overwhelmed they can move away rather than bark!

We also work on teaching your dog that paying attention to you, even in exciting environments, is fun! We work on movement games with a variety of ways of reinforcing them to build engagement with you!

We also build up impulse control, recall, and behaviors such as sit to ensure that our dogs can make safe choices as needed and to ensure we have a way to help them out when needed.

A variety of factors affect how quickly your dog learns to walk loosely on a leash. Dogs that have fear, anxiety, or underlying health issues will take longer to help and may need those issues to be addressed in order to see improvement in certain environments.

It’s kind of hard to write this because what Ginger has done for me & my dog is so big it’s truly hard to fit into words and just overwhelming to think about. I guess it’s pretty much like the proverbial “pebble in the pond” or “ripple effect.” One in home visit with her led to so many positive changes.

I love what they do here. Amazing work with animals that is science based and effective. I would recommend them to anyone!
