Fortunate Fido’s positive reinforcement, in-home dog training & behavior modification lessons teach you to understand your dog’s behavior so you can meet their needs and teach them new ways to interact with the world. We provide exercises tailored to your dog’s specific needs to help you achieve your training and manners goals with your dog!
During your one-on-one training & behavior modification consultations, we don’t follow a specific task list, because each dog and situation is special. Instead, you tell us what you’re having trouble with and we make a dog training plan focused on you and your dog’s needs. From there, we walk you and your pup through our plan so you feel confident playing the games with your dog and knowing how to manage their behavior in the meantime.
Dog training & behavior modification in our very human world isn’t suited for a one size fits all approach! Each household requires different starting points, management, and games as everyone’s (and every dog’s!) situation is a little different.

We don’t and won’t always work on the same things from dog training lesson to dog training lesson because, in order to get a well-rounded dog, we need a variety of behaviors, some of which might come easier to your dog than others. We also need to gradually introduce distractions, new environments, and new situations to help your dog fully understand what you’re asking of them!
Behaviors and topics that your Fortunate Fido Certified Dog Behavior Consultant will focus on in these one-on-one training appointments include:
- How to safely and correctly socialize your new puppy
- Confidence building games for shy dogs
- Impulse control games
- Counter surfing games to limit paws on your counters
- Body awareness exercises to help your dog stay safe as they grow or play
- Dog parkour, scent work, and rally foundations
- Toy play foundations (trading their toy, bringing back and dropping their toy, tugging with you, working for toys as reinforcement, etc.)
- Relaxation on a mat (with a focus on ACTUAL relaxation)
- Polite greetings to prevent jumping on visitors or pulling us towards them
- Recall games to help your dog learn that coming when called is AMAZING
- Potty training

After the initial Virtual Dog Behavior Consultation, we have the option to continue with in-home consultations provided you have trainer approval and live in Northeast Ohio within our Service Area. If not, virtual dog training & dog behavior modification consultations are a fantastic option that can often be easier for both people and their dogs.
