What is Training Around Town?
Training Around Town is a new program where a trainer will pick up your dog and take them for a training excursion to local, dog friendly locations to help practice and build off their manners foundations. The training locations often include stores like Home Depot, Lowe's, PetPeople, Pet Supplies Plus, or other stores; the park; or any number of dog-friendly locations!
These lessons usually end up being an hour long, not including travel time. We recommend that your dog have a car safe harness that can be buckled in and if they're on a special diet, please let the trainer know and provide some of their favorite diet-approved treats!

What does my dog practice while Training Around Town?
While on their Training Around Town excursion your dog will work on their overall manners and attention in new locations. You can also ask the trainer to focus on specific areas as well, but since this is a learning experience, the trainer will not solely focus on one element.
This training often takes the form of:
- Attention Games
- Recall Games
- Polite Greeting Setups
- Loose Leash Walking Practice
- Relaxation and Mat Work
Your dog will return tired and ready for a nap from all the learning!
Is my dog right for Training Around Town?
- Does your dog need to work on their manners out and about in the real world?
- Do they have trouble keeping their feet on the floor while greeting people?
- Do they have a hard time walking nicely on leash when things get exciting?
- Is it hard for them to pay attention to you in new environments?
- Do you have a puppy you’re looking to socialize with new things?
Exclusions:
Training around town is only available to clients who have either taken a class at Fortunate Fido, who have taken private lessons, or have trainer approval.
Your dog must be comfortable with traveling in a car and we recommend that you have a car safe harness that clips into the seat belt buckle for your dog. Aggressive or reactive dogs are not eligible for the Training Around Town program unless you have trainer approval.
Why should I enroll my dog in Training Around Town?
The hardest part of any training is taking it from the classroom to the real world. Training Around Town will help your dog build off of their foundations and give them practice making and being rewarded for making the right choices while out and about. We’ll work around distractions that often include nature (Squirrels! Deer! and more!), people, dogs, new smells, and new sights! Your dog will learn to confidently apply their foundations training in everyday life and continue to love learning with one of our trainers!

Once you schedule a trainer will reach out to you to for information such as if there’s anything specific you want to work on, if your dog needs special treats or is allergic to anything, and what to expect.
The cost per session is $100, but package discounts are available.
