Does my dog need behavioral modification?
Do they bark at other dogs?
Do they have trouble giving up food or toys?
Are they fearful when out and about?
Do they get worked up or frantic easily?
Does it take them forever to calm down?
Our behavioral modification consultations focus on dogs with big feelings! This includes issues such as fear, aggression, and/or frustration that is directed at either dogs or people.
Fear – often dogs who shy away from you and or others; dogs who hide from visitors; dogs who bite and/or growl due to fear; and dogs who shut down at the vet or groomers
Aggression – dogs who guard resources including food, toys, space, their bodies, or people; dogs who bite or growl at family members or others; dogs who aggressively jump, mouth, and/or bark
Frustration – often dogs who can be seen barking at windows, fence fighting with other dogs, jumping on visitors, or barking and lunging on leash towards people, dogs, or other animals
Over Arousal – dogs who can’t seem to calm down at times and easily ramp up into behaviors like nipping, jumping, mouthing, and/or barking
Our training lessons utilize positive reinforcement training because “science has repeatedly shown that dogs learn better–with more beneficial, long-term results–when positive reinforcement training is used.”
In addition, training methodologies have an effect on dog stress levels as well! Research has shown that “Dogs trained using aversive stimuli, which involve punishments for incorrect behavior, show evidence of higher stress levels compared to dogs trained with reward-based methods,” which is why it’s important to utilize a dog-friendly method of training to ensure that both you and your dog have a fun time learning lasting new behaviors during training lessons!
